At Wingrave we believe the value of homework is for children to:
- Learn and ask questions beyond the classroom
- Be creative in a manner which interests them
- Become more independent and develop their personal organisation
- Manage their time and meet deadlines
We use a model of ‘Pick & Mix’ homework which encourages children to regularly practise useful skills like reading, spelling and mental maths, whilst producing evidence of learning to reinforce and extend lessons taking place in school.
We welcome and encourage parental involvement in homework tasks but ultimately want children to be responsible for their own homework – organising it, completing it and handing it in. This is where the true value of homework lies; developing a commitment to personal learning and preparing them for the increasing expectation as they move through primary school and into secondary education.
Below we continue to produce a gallery of examples to inspire the children and support parents with homework ideas .
